A typical day is a series of visits to people who live in their own homes across the city and the villages around it. You might help someone up and dressed first thing, make breakfast, prompt medication and have a proper conversation before moving on. Later in the day it could be lunch, a walk to the postbox, some light housework, or simply sitting with someone who has not spoken to anybody since yesterday.
The work is practical and it is personal, and it is nothing like care in a residential setting. You are a guest in someone's home. You learn how they like their tea, which chair is theirs, which stories they tell. Over months, you become one of the people they genuinely look forward to seeing.
It can be physically tiring and there are days that are sad. We will not pretend otherwise. But most of our carers say the same thing: they finish a shift knowing exactly what difference they made, which is not something every job offers.

Flexible daytime hours, ideal alongside school hours
£16 per hour, mileage paid
Longer, calmer visits built around conversation, a walk, help with the shopping and keeping a quiet eye on well-being. No formal care experience required. Many of our team started in this role and moved into wider care work later.
Hospital Discharge Support Carer
Salisbury, supporting clients home from Salisbury District Hospital
Flexible daytime and some weekend availability
£16 per hour, mileage paid
Short-term, focused support in the first weeks after someone comes home from hospital. Help with mobility, meals, medication prompting and appointments, working closely with families and healthcare staff. Experience with recovery or rehab clients is helpful.
Coming into care for the first time
Plenty of people who apply to us are changing direction entirely. Retail, hospitality, childcare, warehouse work, or coming back after years at home with family. Care suits a lot of them because the qualities that matter cannot be taught on a course: patience, common sense, and the instinct to notice when something is not quite right.
You will not be sent out alone until you are ready. Induction covers moving and handling, medication, safeguarding, infection control and dementia awareness, and you will shadow an experienced carer on real visits before taking any of your own. If you reach the end of shadowing and still feel unsure, we shadow you for longer. There is no pressure to rush that.
Every successful applicant completes an enhanced DBS check before starting.
We arrange and pay for it, along with references. Safeguarding matters enormously in home care, both for the people we support and for the carers visiting them alone.

Do I need care experience to get a home care job in Salisbury?
No. Around half of the people who join us have never worked in care before. We provide paid induction training covering everything you need, and you will shadow an experienced carer until you feel genuinely ready to visit on your own.
Do I need a driving licence and my own car?
For most visiting roles, yes. Rounds cover Salisbury and the surrounding villages, so a licence and access to a car are usually needed. Mileage between visits is paid. If you are city-centre based and do not drive, do still get in touch as we occasionally have walkable rounds.
What hours can I work?
Genuinely flexible. Some of our carers work two mornings a week around family commitments, others work full time. Tell us your availability, including any days or times you cannot do, and we will be honest about whether we can match it.
How much do home carers earn with you?
£16 per hour for daytime visiting work, with enhanced rates for weekends and bank holidays and mileage paid between clients. Overnight and live-in roles are paid at a set nightly or weekly rate.
What checks do I need before starting?
An enhanced DBS check and two references. We arrange and pay for the DBS. Nothing on a DBS is automatically a barrier, so please be open with us and we will talk it through honestly.
How long does the application take?
We aim to respond to every application within two working days. From there, an informal chat, a short interview, references and the DBS check. Most people are ready to start within two to three weeks.
